Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Unlike the other hatchlings, this one hatched with wings.

And look! Its back legs have become a second set of wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Salira, despite being a frozen Skying, is wholly unable to fly; once Cloudborne's and Thundercaller's greatest newcomer rival in flight, her wings were permanently damaged when rock-shards from a quarry struck her as she flew over an explosion.  She held a great interest in mining, as she could not comprehend what humans would want with so much stone, and would spend hours gliding over little quarries and mines trying to learn of the humans' ways.  Salira refused to question the Stones and Pebbles in the clan, being a stubborn hatchling, and tragically paid the price for her curiosity.  Having lost her previous desire for knowledge on humans, Salira now spends her days stumbling awkwardly on her shredded wings through the nearby meadow and woods, wishing more than anything that they could've been saved simply so she could fly once more.
