Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Nothing thrills this dragon so much as the pleasure of flight. Whenever the sun is shining, one only has to look up to find him, flicking back and forth through the air and diving nearly to the earth before he soars upwards again, as playful as any skywing. This has led to rumors that he was the unlawful son of a gold and a common, and as such was accordingly abandoned, only to be raised by skywings or perhaps grays. No evidence for this rash conclusion has ever been found, however, and so he is left to soar the skies undisturbed, lost in unknowing bliss.
