Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Among the other youngsters of the pack, Keldon was never the biggest, the strongest or the fastest in flight, or the most powerful in magic. Cunning and quick—that's what he was. "The tabby cat"—that's what the others called him for the ability to steal anything from anywhere without anyone noticing. Though he never even reached the right size for a grown-up dragon, he became light-hearted, easy-going and fun-loving. A nice hooligan he is—and the regular troubles with the elder of the pack surely can't turn him away from his adventures and jokes.
