And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Renlio loves to show off her growthstone. To albino dragons, a growthstone is determined by the day of the year that a hatchling grows wings on. A growthstone is made up of a certain mineral and shaped according to their gender. A female's growthstone is oval while a male's is more cone-shaped. Most albino dragons wear their growthstone proudly on a necklace or collar, glad that they are one of the few hatchlings that have survived long enough to get it. Renlio, who was frozen long before she had a chance to grow wings, had to wait a while to get her growthstone. Renlio started to ask around the shadier side of town for someone who could help. One day when it was traveling around town Renlio stumbled upon a questionable black dragon selling medical supplies. The black dragon, having heard of Renlio's quest, sold the albino some hormone patches that it stole from a hospital. Thanks to the patches, Renlio soon became female.
