Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Vasanta Elvan was the fourth dragon Nora Emery recruited in her quest to create the Haven Refuge for Abandoned Dragons, and as such he has a place on the Haven Refuge Council. Vasanta is true to his race in that he reveres new life and enjoys observing and guiding the hatchlings through the difficult phases of their growth. He is the refuge's main conflict solver. He breaks up fights and conflicts, be it between hatchlings or adult dragons, although as he isn't a very strong dragon he has to call for assistance in case of violent fights between adults. He potentially deals out the appropriate punishment, unless the dispute is deemed so serious that the consequences have to be discussed by the Council. When Anemone Petal joined the refuge Vasanta immediately felt drawn to her, and the feelings were mutual. They are mates, but have chosen to remain childless as they feel it is wrong to bring a new hatchling into this world when there are so many abandoned hatchlings in need of their love
