Horse Dragons have equine-shaped bodies and hooves instead of claws, which allow them to be fast runners. They specialize in running takeoffs, which are quicker than taking off from a stand-still. Horse dragons are able to stalk their prey from the ground then quickly execute an aerial attack for the kill.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

StormBreath is a dragon who has earned the right to be proud in the colony. As a hatchling, StormBreath took much longer than the other dragons to learn to fly. SoftGem, one of the colony healers, found that StormBreath was born with a deformed bone in his wing. She realized this when she watched him fly for the first time, and heard a loud scraping sound. Though his deformity doesn't hurt him and hes learned to fly well in spite of it, the noise caused by the bone prevented him from being an effective hunter because he couldn't sneak up on prey. However, StormBreath was never angered by his difference, instead believing that it distinguished him and made him special. In fact, he has discovered several new ways to fight using the noise as an advantage, distracting his target while another another dragon in his patrol attacks from a different angle.
