Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Dorsala spends her time hunting and sleeping. This may look lazy to some of the dragons if she didn't hunt for over 10 hours at a time. She has an innate ability to track prey and by lowering her fins no one can see her approach. Because of this the dragons have been working on a way to preserve food, thinking that it would be perfect for a rainy day and to allow Dorsala to teach the hatchlings the specifics of hunting under Pride Sun's direction.

As there are more dragons in the cave their owner has now given them assigned jobs to make the cave run smoother. Dorsala is a  main hunter and hunting teacher.

When she's sleeping and it is not late at night she is seen napping beside Fluffolufogus her mate.
