Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hogosha-Tatsu means guardian, or protector, dragon in Japanese. He likes to lay in the sun and sleep on cool days. Whenever other dragons get into a fight, Hogosha-Tatsu often plays referee. He's very peaceful, but will fight if he has to. Hogosha-Tatsu's calm and laid back, but he will, at times, join other dragons in play. He has a lot of patience, even when young hatchlings use his back as a slide. Hogosha-Tatsu has a father-like disposition, even with hatchlings other than his own. Many dragons look up to and respect Hogosha-Tatsu deeply;therefore, he became thought of as the "clan leader" of the dragons that the "clan master" has taken. He can often be seen watching over the clan with his mate, Haiirotatsu, by his side. Many females have attempted to court Hogosha-Tatsu, but he finally settled on a single mate shortly before becoming the clan leader.
