Moonstone Dragons are named after the orb on their tails, which resembles the gem of the same name. They are nocturnal and gather energy through the absorption of moonlight with their orbs. They seem to glow with a lunar light and are a very gentle breed, feeding off of plants and the moons’ power.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Moonmountain has always been even-keel, even for a Moonstone, not jumping when thunder roars or frightened by the dark blue light that eerily outlines the Moon's golden face on cloudy nights. Moonstones are a gentle breed by nature, and like his Weyrmates, he wants a gentle, peaceful life in service of the Moon and Her gentle, stable Weyr.

But since he met his mate, Moonwax, he wonders about the gentleness of his Clan. He hoped to win her heart; they were strangers when Smoothstone read their fates in the Moon's light, but he admired her for her patience, her dutiful dedication to what the Moon asks of her. He wanted to be a good mate to her and tried to learn how.

Still, as gentle as he is, not all that is unasked is unknown. She does not tell him she loves another, but she does not smile when he meets her eyes. She is kind to him, but when he asks what he can do to make her happy, she looks away.

And he wonders if a question with only one gentle answer is truly a question at all.
