Ochredrakes are a curious species with a wide array of mutations and interesting behaviors. Not as intelligent as normal dragons, they only breed with other drake species. While they may not be bright, ochredrakes are flamboyant and fun-loving with amazing, chirping voices to sing with, and tame readily in the presence of a gentle hand.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

While not the first egg to be given a home in this cave, Alex was the first to hatch and mature. Thus he is the guardian of all the cave's eggs and hatchlings. Like all Ochredrakes, Alex isn't the brightest dragon in the world, but he is loyal and protects the young dragons, with his life if necessary. Even as a young hatchling he watched over the other eggs in the cave, and he will continue to do so for as long as he lives. He has become very attached to Vilily since she started helping him with the hatchlings, so much so that the rest of the cave believes that if Alex was a dragon instead of a drake that the two would become mates.
