This breed of dragon results from eggs or hatchlings that have been neglected. They are usually rebellious, not obeying their masters, sometimes even attacking them. However, their neglect as a hatchling leaves them crippled, and they are weak compared to other breeds, causing them to stay with their masters for protection.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The Neglected One used to be something else. She is sure of it.

What that was, she is unsure.

She knows that she has never encountered another dragon like her in these lands. She knows that she was born sickly and weak, warped from whatever she had been. She would not have survived without the care of the human Feathers.

The human sleeps, has been sleeping for so many years now that the Neglected One has lost count. She suspects this is some form of ill magic, a curse, something dark and deep. Or perhaps only something humans do.

Still, she bears the human forth, carrying her gently, keeping to the shadows and the wastes to keep her safe from the warring dragon clans and weyrs that bicker for territory like spoiled hatchlings.

The Neglected One remembers the care with which this human, this small, sleeping creature, tried to nurse her back to health. The Neglected One remembers and cares for Feathers now, hoping that one day she'll awaken and tell her what the both of them used to be.
