Spitfires are a desert breed of dragon. Their dull brown bodies contrast with their brilliant turquoise markings, and they only blaze brighter when these dragons fight. Spitfires are notorious for their territorial natures, and the wing-edges of most are ripped and tattered before their first year is out. Spitfires are also noteworthy for their brilliant blue fire, which is used not for hunting or fighting, but rather for making glass caves from the sand, in which the dragons can soak up the sun.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Desertsea is a female Spitfire dragon who inhabits a barren wasteland known as "The Asti Desert". This region is one of the most arid in all the Land of HeroHorse. Over the years, Desertsea has watched the desert has a become a haven for the mad, the territorial and those whose dim wits have landed them there. Desertsea doesn't really care which class the other dragons fit into, as she chases each and every one of them away from the pride and joy of her existence.

Desertsea has, as is characteristic to her breed, made herself a cave in the desert. However, she is convinced that hers is truly extraordinary. It spirals upwards majestically, like the horn of a glass unicorn. Desertsea is quite certain that her cave is the best in all the Land of HeroHorse, perhaps even in all of Valkemare. Despite her boastfulness, she isn't lying when she says that she has never seen a better glass cave. Desertsea has not strayed out of sight of her glass creation ever since she built it.
