Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s extremely curious and seems to enjoy exploring the area around it.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Adolescence is an awkward time in any young creature's life, and it sure doesn't help when you're the only hatchling in your class sprouting giant facial whiskers. The young male's angry counter to those who jeer at him is that they are a sign that the blood of great eastern dragons runs in his veins, although he knows in his heart that they are really only indications of deranged hair growth. He's debated cutting them off, but he can't help but secretly like them... and he knows the ladies dig them, too.
