Moonstone Dragons are named after the orb on their tails, which resembles the gem of the same name. They are nocturnal and gather energy through the absorption of moonlight with their orbs. They seem to glow with a lunar light and are a very gentle breed, feeding off of plants and the moons’ power.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The Weyr of the Moon is one built on a very careful system of mating and parenting. With such limited space in the Valley of the Moon, each mated pair is permitted to have only one hatchling, and some will try to vow their children to each other, performing rituals to the Moon for Her blessing over these social and political unions.

Perhaps more than most, Moonsmooth is aware of this function of her Weyr; when she was hatched, her parents had already agreed with their close friends to bind together their offspring. When Moonsmooth and her betrothed, Moonaway, grew, however, Moonsmooth found herself repelled by Moonaway; he was too much like a brother to her, and she just didn't love him. He tried to convince her to stay, but she appealed to Gentlestone herself and was given another mate, this one chosen for her by the Moon. Moonaway has resented her rejection ever since, though he has his own new mate now too.

These days, Moonsmooth and Moonaway refuse to even look at each other.
