Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Xena, named for a mythical warrioress, displays an atypical all black pattern which differs from the usual golden belly of most black dragons. She has served in numerous battles both at the side of humans and other dragons. Known for upholding the cause of good she is a much celebrated dragon spoke of as a heroine. Despite being a moody and rash dragon she rarely attacks without being provoked. She was injured severely when aiding Draco in defending against a marauding group of storm dragons. Shadowfax brought her to Flyboy's territory where she healed. Over the time she recovered Xena and Flyboy bonded very strongly. Now they are often seen going to war side by side.
