Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

Oschtjepka, who thinks of herself as female, has been angry with Kanaye since the moment she named her. Oschtjepka begged for another name, one that she herself could pronounce. Kanaye merely smiled at her and said, "We'll just call you Osch." Oschtjepka would have been fine with being named something as simple as Osch, but Kanaye refused to make it official. "Oschtjepka is a type of cheese. You are a cheese dragon. Therefor you are Oschtjepka. Deal with it."

Oschtjepka was sure that, as Kanaye turned away, she mumbled, "Do you want some wine with that cheese..." Oschtjepka isn't sure what exactly that meant but she is sure it was not a compliment. As such she has been holding onto her grudge and will not let it go till Kanaye gives in and changes her name, preferably to simple, easy Jane.
