Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has bright blue eyes, and is as clumsy as any other hatchling, but it never seems to get injured.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Opal is a calm soul, catching butterflies or watching fish swim in a pond. She enjoys searching the forests for herbs, roots, berries, and other plants with healing properties. As clumsy as any other hatchling, she never has a scratch, and she's always there to patch up any injury other dragons, young and old, may have. She will often sit at the edge of the forest and watch travelers pass by, sometimes trailing after a lone witch who always has something for her. She is a happy dragon, enjoying the company of others and never hurting a fly. Her favorite snack is a dish of raspberries atop a pile of oak leaves, Morning Glory blossoms, and mushrooms.
