This hatchling’s behavior is not cute at all; it keeps trying to kick and bite you.

And look! It has grown wings, and flickers of flame have appeared along its body. Maybe something is happening?

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Once upon a time, there was a rich man who had become rich due to being very, very frugal. This man had a young daughter who he loved very much, but like most children, she had no sense of self-control and would incessantly ask for expensive, useless things like ponies. Not wanting to get her such a thing--but also not wanting to outright tell his beloved daughter no--the sly man arranged to have his daughter visit a Hellhorse breeding farm. It was there that the young girl saw this tiny Hellhorse hatchling and fell instantly in love with him--until, that is, the violent little thing set half its enclosure on fire and nearly succeeded in biting her doll's head off. Needless to say, she no longer wants a pony--but, much to her father's dismay, she's fallen quite in love with the more docile Horse dragons stabled there instead!
