Sapphire Dragons were so named for their brilliant blue-green color, which is reminiscent of the gemstone. This breed was historically hunted for their scales; even long after, they remain distrustful of humans. Normally a Sapphire is not very aggressive, but they will defend themselves vigorously if under attack. Their diet consists mainly of fruit, with smaller portions of large insects and other invertebrates. Males woo females with vocalizations similar to bird songs. Sapphire Dragons are very loyal to their mates, and it is not unusual that they pair for life.
Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.
The one and only companion of Lady Dorada I, Lord Azurine rules over a large patch of land in the Azull Mountains, which he has set apart to be the romping grounds of his future offspring. This area is home to many sheer cliffs and dangerous hazards, including the Telvix Deer and Elsnakes, both creatures known for preying almost exclusively on dragon hatchlings. However, this doesn't phase him; he works hard to drive these creatures from his territory, in order to appease the anxiety of his beloved lady. Scars from these bloody fights and near-death experiences can be seen all over his body, which are as numerous in the facets of cut diamond if one looks close enough. He also has grandiose plans for himself and his future, dreaming of creating an entire line from himself and his lady so that he may one day have more children than there are mountains. He enjoys the idea of playing with the little hatchlings.
