Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

This dragon is forever independent, as its name suggests. It will never be oppressed or enslaved. It is free to roam the land as it pleases, doing whatever it wants. As an egg, the dragon was abused by several wild, raucous dragons, who kicked her eggshell around like a ball. Later on, she was often bullied by the other hatchlings, since she was the smallest. As she grew older and older, she became very sullen and hated taking orders.

And one day she broke away forever. She left her clan, her camp, her miserable and suffering life. Her tortured soul yearned to be free, to fly away, to never take orders or be enslaved again. She was driven by her own independence, living her own life, not the life that others set out for her. She is forever independent, and it will stay that way for as long as the brave and daring dorsal, who freed herself from the miseries of oppression, lives.
