Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Dermego came into the clan as a fosterling. His family, a clan to the north, decided that time with the Valley Clan would help him to see more of the world, and to get better acquainted with the next generation of Valley dragons. As the son of the North Clan's second-in-command and his mate, the move to send the shy young hatchling to the Valley Clan was a good political strategy -- they thought. As he grew, Dermego got over his shyness, and became close friends with Valley's hatchlings, as his family predicted. However, they never thought he'd get so attached. He fell in love with Vlain, but he had to battle another male to fly her. Daxus Rentis, who also took a fancy to the clan leader's daughter, stepped up to the plate. As a trophy to his victory, Dermego has a thin scar over his right eye. He is now the mate of Vlain, as well as an active Valley Clan member. Dermego is now Valley Clan's second-in-command under clan leader Sorrin.
