Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

In a dark cave, hundreds of miles into the icy mountains, lives a mysterious dragon. He is one of the few of his kind, rare after being hunted nearly to extinction. The lucky few who occasionally see him soaring across the sky call him Gold Splendor, though none know his true name. He rarely ventures outside his cave, preferring to spend his time in seclusion, leaving only to hunt or seek a mate. His scales are always shining and polished since he takes pride in being one of the few golden dragons, but there is another reason. He cares for them because they are his battle armor, and he awaits the day that his kin once again rise to power and fly through the air unafraid—hunting, fighting, and playing as they were meant to. In the meantime, he invites young dragons into his cave to teach them their heritage and their birthright.
