Terrae Dragons are primarily herbivores who prefer to eat from the tops of trees. However, due to their massive size, they must rely on small, specialized scales to absorb and convert energy from the sun. Since they live in tightly-knit groups, this form of energy absorption helps preserve the forests in which these dragons reside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

When she was a hatchling, fresh from her egg, Terra contracted an extremely rare disease that made it so her scales couldn't absorb sunlight for energy. This has made it so she had to eat more leaves, and even tree bark, to satisfy her hunger. The disease had also made her stop growing when she got to about half the size as her kind should be.

Though she doesn't need to eat an entire tree every day, when she has finished one down to the roots, she bites off one of her scales and puts it where the tree once stood. When she was young, Terra had discovered that her scales had the power to make old, dead trees grow back quickly as tall, healthy trees. She is proud of this power, since otherwise she'd be destroying the forest she calls her home.

Her diet has earned her the nickname "Tree Eater" from her peers.
