And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Realizing that the Hirunae family's only son, Ajax, had no intention of passing on his family's genes, Taka's father--a family friend--begrudgingly took as a mate for a season Ajax's sister, Selene. All the family's hopes were in little Taka until he was struck with a curse halting his growth into adulthood. Now and forever a child, Taka--affectionately nicknamed 'Juicie' by his easygoing father--represses bitter and confused emotions regarding the fact that he will never grow up.

Nevertheless, little Taka takes great pride in his family and always wants to be in the middle of events and gatherings, helping out in any way he can. This fervent loyalty is in stark opposition to the passive indifference of his father, Sasuka, and the lukewarm investment of his mother, Selene.

When not hopping about the legs and tails of his noble grandparents, "Juicie" Hirunae is tagging along behind his father and the prince Ajax, both of whom treat him more like a younger brother than a son.
