Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Frelia's situation is a very unique one. She has long loved a Christmas dragon named Saint Sigmund, but after a few years of only seeing him every Christmastime she decided she couldn't handle waiting for him all year. She mated with a red dragon named Barcan instead, but when Sigmund came back the next year she didn't have the heart to turn him away so ever since then, she's spent all year with Barcan and a few hours every Christmastime with Sigmund when he comes to visit her. Barcan and Sigmund both know of the arrangement, but neither of them say anything about it because they don't want to give her up. Whenever Frelia has children by Sigmund, she always tells her family and friends that they are Barcans, as they don't know about Sigmund.
