Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has shiny fish-like scales and loves water.

And look! It has gotten bigger! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Shimmerscales are known for many things; for beauty, for grace, for being ridiculously hard to find in the wild, and for being very, very picky about their ancestry. Or perhaps it's just their human companions who care about the latter. At any rate, the most valued Shimmerscale bloodlines are usually those where only two breeds are present, and where a distinct pattern is present in the family tree. But alas for this poor little fellow; not only does he have almost half a dozen breeds in his lineage, it's also got no set pattern at all! Eternally lamenting his family's love choices (especially those of his great grandmother), he spends much of his time sulking and wishing he was an ultra-cool wild-born Shimmerscale with a few dozen wives.
