Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It sleeps a lot, but when it’s awake, it’s quite a handful.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Curlyfur is one of Phoenix's dragons. He is a flighty, easily scared hatchling that is, quite frankly, afraid of the world. Hauntbeast and Shockwayve, a black and an electric hatchling, love to tell him spooky stories to scare the daylights out of him, and thus they help make him even more paranoid. Curlyfur never ventures out of the cave, and, to the amusement of the other dragons, he speaks with a distinct stutter. He is also deathly afraid of Phoenix's scissors, which he believes to be some kind of deadly weapon, when she tries to trim his fur.
