Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The mysterious Christmas dragons are thought to be kind, cheery, and generally good-natured, but Varaz is quite the opposite. He is an arrogant and selfish soul, and doesn't feel like he's obligated to spread holiday cheer simply because he's a Winter Magi. His father, having enough of his rebellious nature, drove him away and told him to never return. As he wandered the wilderness he met Jodada, a ruthless Bleeding Moon who happens to lead a group of dangerous dragons that splintered off from their main clan. He became her mate and second-in-command, not letting his heritage fool anyone into thinking he will let them off easily. Varaz still can't bring himself to kill or attack other dragons, however, so he stays away from the front lines. Instead he works behind the scenes, concocting new battle strategies and tactics as the group prepares to attack the larger clan.
