Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

HopefulPygmy is a Pygmy Dragon hatchling with a lot of energy. She's always the first hatchling up at sunrise (other than those who are still up and going to sleep). If any game or athletic activity is going on, she is there. She spends her free time racing with Whiptails, swimming with Waterhorses, or play fighting with other hatchlings. Even though she is small, she can still be a worthy opponent. She is very, very fast, and she is more than willing to use her teeth and claws.
