It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Meroven is the Mate of Leriah, who will one day take her father's place as Clan-Leader. Long ago, Meroven was a traveling merchant. He went to different Clans to trade his wares for jewels. He came to Valley Clan for a short stay. During his time in the Valley he became acquainted with the dragons and the land. Meroven kept putting off leaving until he had stayed an entire year. It was then that he decided to stay. He had always liked Leriah, and then he grew to love her. It was some time before he discovered that she felt the same. Now that the two are Mates, Sorrin makes Mero attend Leriah's classes. He said that they were essential if they were to become Clan-Leaders; however, both Meroven and Leriah find the classes to be very boring and are often off playing hooky together. When Mero is not in the classes or with his family, he runs a small store in one of the Caves' Caverns. A happier dragon cannot be found anywhere.
