Feisty and energetic, Whiptail Dragons pride themselves on their speed and agility. It is not unusual to see several whiptails racing each other. Though fragile, they can easily evade attacks with their superior speed, and often use their long tails as a weapon, giving rise to their name.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Dark Joy is a selfish dragon that has a darkness shrouding his heart. His mate is the only one that has ever been able to penetrate his self-absorption and made her way into his mind. Because she has been able to do so, like no other has been able to before, he is viciously protective of her to a point of obsession. This makes him controlling of Spring Brick; he does not like her to leave their cave and has been aggressive when she has without his permission.

One night, instead of dragging her back to the cave and punishing her for leaving, he followed her.

He saw her talking to Spring Whip, and though he seemed oblivious, he noticed Spring Brick had fallen in love with the other Whiptail.

Seething, he retired to the cave and after meticulous planning, has decided to bide his time.

He plans to punish Spring Brick for straying from him. Not through a beating as usual, but by removing the one that is so precious to her. He plans, with a mind tainted by resentment, to murder Spring Whip.
