Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It can fit right in your palm.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Mess is, as her name suggests, the messenger dragon for the Cave. She is small and agile, and as good a fighter as any. Her only problem is that, as she is a hatchling, and a Pygmy hatchling at that, she can't carry anything too heavy. She wishes she could change this.

Mess is a kind, playful dragon, but usually keeps to herself to avoid being trampled. Her parents are more proud of her than they can tell—their daughter, a messenger dragon! She hopes to have a little brother soon, seeing as she can never mate.
