Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Raised by a strong expectant mother and a fast and free father, Ultium sometimes felt conflicted as a hatchie. Despite this, Ultium grew up well, becoming nearly as good a flier as his father and becoming as loyal and dependable as his mother. He is regarded as extremely responsible and polite by the older dragons. After saving a group of hatchlings from a large falling tree Ultium has been regarded as a hero, but he was badly wounded, breaking his tail, his two front legs and receiving multiple injuries past that, as after the first tree fell, several more fell. The trees were large and nearly killed him, but he managed to save all 5 hatchlings. Thankfully his friend Fiderion, a white dragon, managed to heal his injuries over time. Today all of the hatchlings are happy and healthy adults who are always thankful for how he saved their lives, he was a very young adult at the time of the rescue but it is still fresh in his memory as a moment where he made himself and many others proud.
