This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

She woke up, alive but changed. Her memory was gone. A mysterious voice asked if she was okay. She was too tired to speak. The sun came into the cave and she could see there was a male vampire dragon hovering over her. She wanted to scream, but she couldn't. She stared into his dead looking eyes. "I hope that means yes. I will search for some food," he smiled and walked out of the cave. She thought of what they would eat. Blood -eww.! She felt hungry and thirsty, craving blood. It all made sense now. The vampire came back with bunches of twigs. Not what she had expected. "We will have a vegetarian diet." Grudgingly, she ate the twigs. Not remembering her name, her companion named her Belladonia.
