Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Unlike the other hatchlings, this one hatched with wings.

And look! Its back legs have become a second set of wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Xian Amnis was very sickly when he first hatched--so much so that his hatcher didn't believe he was strong enough to survive to reach adulthood.  Using a spell, he became forever young--free to regain his strength and live a long, full life under the protection of Celrirna the Guardian.  Now Xian is often seen zipping through the sky at high speeds, chasing the tails of other dragons to stir up trouble then quickly dart away.
