And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Little Filcher, originally named Kojoiqua, is an unusually gluttonous Harvest hatchling who is always looking for food. Her hunger soon led her to thievery, and then blackmail. Not wanting her filching to be discovered, she threatened other hatchlings so they would not risk telling about her pilfering. This worked until adult dragons began to notice that the other hatchlings were always looking for every scrap of food they could find. They also saw that Little Filcher was growing at an unusual rate and was the only hatchling in the area that was not starving, despite the Harvests' usual hunger. After discovering this, a powerful magic user cursed her with hunger and froze her time so she would forever be a hatchling, never able to grow and stand up for herself, so she would forever experience the hunger she bestowed on others and the fate she had nearly condemned the other hatchlings to. Little Filcher's hunger is never satisfied, and no one will help her after what she has done.
