This hatchling appears to be... dead?
Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.
Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.
User Description
When Bloodsuckler awakens, he seeks warm-blooded mammals as prey by the smell of hormones and the sound of a pulse. He spots his prey with infrared vision, seeing the body heat only living creatures emit. Pouncing from the shadows, he bites deeply into the rapidly pulsing arteries of his terrified prey, sucking ravenously at the fresh, warm output.
Bloodsuckler disdains blood that has cooled, or worse, clotted. He likes it enriched with oxygen, flowing freely, and providing him some of the warmth he cannot produce for himself.
Although he usually captures prey smaller than himself, occasionally he will tackle something larger...especially if his prey is walking alone, late at night, with no one around to see...
