It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Following the success of Pacis, a second clutch of four eggs were obtained; the first populous for the clan. Among these four eggs Pacis guarded was Occultus. Since hatching, Occultus has obtained snickers and taunts for being the "purple boy". His fellow hatchlings (Navitas, Tutela, and Intumesco) would joke about his color, but still accepted him as a friend and leader of their quad. Occultus eventually grew a tough skin about his color and now as an adult, he doesn't seem bothered at all. By nature, Occultus is mysterious through attractive in appearance thanks to the fanciful attributes of his breed. He remains quiet, but those close to him speak of him as a jokester and caring individual. He is usually seen around Pacis as he is second in command within the clan. As a hatchling, he had a crush on Tutela, but as an adult now he sets his eyes out to see what the future clan will bring as a mate for him.
