It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

A shy, quiet and modest dragon, Murasakijou is the dragon-ification of the ideal 'maiden' of Medieval times. She has shown almost no will of her own, doing exactly as she is told to, and her beauty is considered to be only second to Murasakihime's. This has earned her the ire of many female dragons who believe that female dragons should be strong, dominant, vocal and willing to put a talon down when need be, as well as the jealousy of other female dragons who long for the attention that Murasakijou receives. Interestingly, no one is quite sure how old Murasakijou is. She appears young, but appears to be senior to much older-looking Purple dragons. This had led to rumours of her having eaten from the Tree of Life (but not from the Tree of Knowledge). Murasakijou herself refuses to comment on these rumours, fueling further speculations.
