Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It seems to bear some semblance to a horse.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This little almost-pony made a wish on a star one night to remain young forever. A kindly IceFairy heard and came down from the cloud she was resting on to kiss his forehead. "Very well, Little One. Enjoy your youth!", she said in a tinkling voice like cracking ice. He fell asleep as she flitted away, secure in the knowledge he wouldn't have to grow up.
