Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

From the start, Auralai knew she was special, as the Dragon Breeder stood guard over her throughout her days as a hatchling, watching her carefully and stepping in when play with other hatchlings got too rough.

The Dragon Breeder watched her especially closely when other Breeders came by to admire her, and so Auralai grew up with a sense of self importance and vanity. Preening herself and showing herself to best advantage when admirers are around. Yet, in spite of her vanity she possesses a gentle heart, especially when one of other dragons is hurt or sad.
