Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Because of his breed, Teikei is treated with high respect by the members of the Sylvain clan. However, Teikei himself is actually sort of awkward around others, as he is easily flustered and always wary of offending those he interacts with. This may be because he became a member of the Sylvain clan as part of a good will alliance with another family. Generally a bit of a picky eater, he spends a long time hunting every day, looking for more delicate fare such as small woodland animals or certain fast-swimming fish. Teikei often gives food he doesn't feel like eating to the hatchlings, as he doesn't feel as uneasy around them.
