Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Winglessness resides in the forest known as Relic Pub, in its largest and busiest region, Crocus Tan. He is not an important figure like the governmental body and the magic-doing dragons who can achieve strange feats that make his head spin. He, like all denizens of Relic Pub, has something to do, whether it's hunting and foraging on their own and making their voices heard, or being part of a guild that has some influence on the leaders, or starting a criminal enterprise that has a different kind of influence on Crocus Tan. Winglessness believes what he sees and is suspicious of those magic people, and when disturbances threaten Relic Pub, he prefers the problem to be eliminated without any great changes occurring in his beloved region.
