Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s very light and enjoys bouncing all around.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Beany Baby's egg was stolen in a raid. The clan's dragons attacked the thief causing him to drop the eggs as he fled. All of the eggs were found that night, but two. Beany Baby can't remember much about it, but she remembers a lot of noise and extremely bad feelings that made her shudder inside her egg.  As the bad feelings and noise suddenly stopped she felt a funny feeling in her tummy. Now she knows that means you're falling. The next thing she felt was fear, and it wasn't hers. She could sense someone beneath her egg was terribly afraid. She didn't want to leave this feeling alone. She reached out with all the might her little mind had and wrapped the fear in her thoughts. She thought to the little dragon's mind she now enclosed "I'll never leave you little one". Through the long cold night Beany Baby kept that promise, and still does, to this day. The hatchlings are doomed to their junior forms from the cold, but not their love of life. Their laughter rings through the caves.
