Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Arenea's egg was laid by two tsunami wyverns. When her egg was laid, a Vampire dragon snatched her egg and delivered it to his mistress, a Vampire dragon named Veloxum. Luxave, Veloxum's lieutenant, bit the egg and from it hatched Arenea. From hatching, she was raised by Vampire caregivers, all of which encouraged her to embrace her vampiric heritage.

Arenea was a loner amongst the Vampires, often mingling with the living dragons and living on the outskirts of the Vampires' cave. One night, while exploring the lands ruled by the vampires, where she met a lumina nicknamed "Light". The attraction was immediate, and Arenea was confused about what she felt for the dragoness. The Vampire's feelings towards Light soon turned into an obsession, and she began to stalk her at nights.

Eventually, Arenea kidnapped Light and brought her to a cave, where she was surprised to learn that the feeling was mutual. Hesitantly, the dragons decided to become mates, despite the unusual situation.
