And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This dragon has a most difficult life. As if being a pygmy wasn't bad enough, she was frozen in hatchling form, leaving her even more small and, well, squishable. Accordingly, she is paranoid to take naps, fretting about in fitful terror that some large, stupid human will sit on her, or that a larger dragon will plop their foot down and crush her while she's sleeping. The other pygmies try to convince her that her fears are illogical, as while they are tiny they're certainly not microscopic, but she doesn't listen.
