And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.
Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.
This little terror is malicious and has been since hatching. Even as a baby, he loved torturing mice and other small creatures, delighting in their screams and cries for mercy. He views any dragon that is not a Gold dragon to be beneath him and not worth living. He despises humans, mainly due to how his breed is viewed as something valuable that is traded. If any human comes near him, he bites them and will not let go until he feels he has inflicted enough pain. People quickly realized that this terrible dragon couldn't be allowed to reach adulthood, or things would get much worse. He was caged, and a wizard carefully used a spell to freeze him. Needless to say, the dragon was furious upon discovering he would never grow bigger and now makes it his mission to inflict misery wherever he goes.
