Sunrise Dragons are closely related to sunset dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunrise Dragons prefer to live in large groups and enjoy basking in the early morning sun. They are usually most active in the morning, and go to sleep in the early evening.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Briar Thuwed comes from a long line of respected dragons, even if she doesn't believe it. The other dragons always tell her that the Mistress was gifted her as an egg. Briar still thinks and acts like she's just like all the others, and hence does not receive any special treatment in the clan. As a sunrise dragon, she is one of the first dragons up in the morning. She stays up in the clan's mountain, sharing the cave there with the storm dragons, the daydreams, and the skywings, as well as the other mountain-dwelling dragons. She retires back to her cave at around two in the afternoon, but can sometimes be awake until nightfall. Briar, although fond of hatchlings, has never wanted any of her own, and isn't particularly fond of any of the males in that way.
