Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Blackgaze was hatched a dark reflection of her parents. Unlike them, her breast was red-black, not a blazing streak of ivory; her eyes caught the light of the moons in a way her parents' didn't, despite the matching color. Her horns black as pitch on her head, Blackgaze was born with no spines to guard her back.

She was declared impure and driven out to the wastes. Her parents pled with Flameflow to spare her, despite her strangeness, but when their appeal failed, they turned away from her. As they were told to do. They watched, silently, with all the other Black dragons of the Weyr of Flame while Blackgaze was dragged to the wastes at the edge of the territory, told never to return.

She found the Traitor King's Weyr, like many of those driven out from the fertile territories do. She even met others, similarly dark Black dragons with strange green eyes and shadows in their bellies. But she doesn't want a new family.

She wants to see her parents again. One last time before they die.
