Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Part of the team of Sylvain clan dragons that combats groups of predators, Shoton specializes in advanced earth magic. He is particularly skilled in a series of disorienting and inhibiting spells that cause the growth of crystals on an opponent's skin. Shoton's particular enchantments require a high level of concentration, so he usually doesn't use magic in combat unless several other members of the group are with him. Shoton himself can be a bit odd at times; since no one of the family will allow him to practice growing crystals on them (even though the effect wears off with time) he uses trees and other plants to train. Sometimes he will stare at the crystal growths for hours, patiently keeping track of how long the effects last with each successive casting.
